Cuyahoga .Net CMS Modules: Images Processing and Photos Gallery Management

As Cuyahoga, a .Net Open Source Content Management System, is a really cool platform, not a lot of content module is available. As Art Experience is essentially dedicated to image and photography presentation, we have developed a specific “Image Gallery Management” module for the CMS.

The Gallery Management module includes:

• Creation of galleries and associated images independently of a specific Cuyahoga section
• Multilingual Gallery information managed directly according to the root node culture info defined in the current site
• Image list display with popup and rating system
• Gallery comments management, based on the native Article module of Cuyahoga, extended with IP geographical information for registered users.
• Image slide shows with random image selection or image fade in transition
• Automatic thumbnails generation
• Photo watermark
• And more…

 Module overview

As presented in the previous figure, the xpGallery package is composed of four main components and associated sub-modules. Complementary administration pages are also included.

The xpGallery module is the main component that enables the complete management of all the image galleries in your site. You must have at least one xpGallery section in you site.

This module also provides "Image processing" tools to

• automatically generate thumbnail
• Watermark your images

The xpGalleryComments module is the component that enables a visitor to enter specific comments for one gallery. This module is similar to the Articles comments management. Except that you can display the comments in a separate section.

The xpPhotoList module has two key functionalities:

• Display the content of a specific image gallery (Thumbnails) on a form of customizable table
• When a user clicks on a Thumbnail, popup a separate window to view the Image and access the Image Rating system

The xpPhotoShow module is linked to a specific gallery. Two types of shows are available:

• Random: each time a user enters in the page a random image of the gallery is presented. In this mode, you can customize the “click” behavior, either to show the image as an “overlay” on top of the current page or popup the image in a separate window.
• Fade-In show: all images in a gallery are presented in a time based slide show with a fade-in effect. No “click” actions can be customized in this one.

The xpPhotoShow relies on advanced Javascripts originally developed by different authors (Open Source) and customized for the Art Experience project. Please preserve all Copyright information if you are using those scripts. Thanks for the authors.

All the components are using two external libraries:

Xprience.GeoIP: is component encapsulating the access to the free MaxMind GeoIP Lite database and enables the discovery of the country for a given IP address.

Xprience.ImageLib: is a component encapsulating common image manipulation algorithms such as thumbnail generation with sharpening filter, image watermarking with copyright and so on.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Currently, all your images will be stored in the UserFiles\Image\ folder due to the fact that image “uploading” is done thru FCKEditor. A next version will remove this dependency to FCKEditor.
